All stitched details are fixed by hand in at a women cooperative in San Juan de Lurigancho (Lima's most populated district). We do not mass produce; each piece represents the hard work and skill of talented entrepreneurs working to improve their communities. All cotton used in our collections is grown pesticide & herbicide free in the Peruvian coastlines, helping to keep soil and water in better conditions while protecting the health of our farmers. Also, due to the extensive time it takes to handknit, we do not mass produce; each piece of the collection represents the hard work and skill of talented local entrepreneurs. [/pane] [pane title="Fabric"] Tangüis cotton is the new addition for this SS18 collection. Just like Pima, it is locally sourced in the Peruvian coastline. The difference comes to the touch, its fiber is less soft but stronger and more uniform than Pima. Its resistance makes it perfect for hand-woven and handknitted pieces. Furthermore, Tanguis requires less water for the plantation (conducts moisture very well) and due to its absortion qualities it also needs less dye to obtain color compared to other cotton qualities. Tanguis and Pima cotton are the two "specialties" of Peru. Alpacas in Peru are raised in large open spaces (between 3900 and 4800 m.a.s.l.), its use goes back thousands of years, to the pre-inca cultures. Due to alpaca’s natural environment, its fiber is several times warmer than the regular sheep wool while remaining light and soft to touch. The "Baby Alpaca" fiber is known for being extra soft. [/pane] [pane title="Care"] To preserve this item in good shape, keep it away from your washing machine & specially your dryer! Hand wash will do the trick, or hang it around when taking a hot shower, the steam will take off the odors. Also, keep in mind that long earings or necklaces could get entangled and pull a thread! [/pane] [pane title="Manufacturing"] This sweatshirt has been entirely hand-crafted at a family run workshop in Villa el Salvador (Lima, Peru). All embroided details are made by hand in at a women cooperative in San Juan de Lurigancho (Lima's most populated district). Due to the extensive time that hand-embroidery takes, we do not mass produce; each piece represents the hard work and skill of talented entrepreneurs working to improve their communities.
